Rhizomes creeping, ascending or erect; scale clathrate, Fronds simple, pinnate or more compounds, variable in shapes and sizes venation free or anastomosing, bearing scales or hairs. Stipes with 2 vascular bundles at base and x-shaped in upper part in cross section. Sori linear, elongate, indusiate, indusium along one side of sorus; spore monolete
